A Word of Encouragement - Please Post Conditions

I would like to encourage all my fellow Southern Ontario ice climbers out there to please post about ice climbing conditions. It's been a pretty poor your out there for ice so far and some places simply haven't come in or haven't come in well.

If anybody has visited any of the more out-of-the-way ice climbing locations out there, such as Raven Lake, Sherborne Lake, Bear Lake, McCauley Lake etc, it would be nice to hear what conditions are like, to save other people the trouble of going in a long distance only to find poor ice.

I find that even posts about the regular, frequently visited locations, such as Bancroft, Bow Lake, Kushog are helpful and interesting. If you have a bad ice climbing addiction, then hearing about conditions or seeing photos is the second best fix after the actual ice climbing itself. Plus, it's always intereseting to see who's out there (I'm constantly amazed at all trhe new people I bump into at the ice crags - there's more people climbing ice in Southern Ontario than I would have thought).

So, please post conditions anywhere.

You can post here, although this Bulletin Board can be cantankerous. Yes, people actually read this board (even if no-one posts much. No, you don't have to be an ACC member to post here).

Or you can send conditions info to Andriy at akolosAAAAThotmailDOOTcom who posts them on his website http://www.kolos.ca/andriy/ontario%20ice/ice1.htm

Or post on the ontarioclimbing.com forum - the good folk on that forum start an ice climbing thread every year. http://ontarioclimbing.com/forum/index.php?topic=1651.0

There's also an ice climbing thread on the sudburyclimbing.com forum and Ontario ice climbing conditions section on neice.com.

There's also a Facebook group out there (I'm not on Facebook, but the word about ice conditions will get around).

(And if you believe posting spoils the fun and the anticipation of discovering things for yourself or brings the unwashed hoards to your favourite pristine, unspoiled corner of the woods - well, that's fine too. But then you wouldn't be reading this, would you?)

Thanks,

Danylo
Friendly neighbourhood ice climbing enthusiast.

Hamilton Ice

Took a look at most of the Hamilton ice climbs yesterday. Dundas Peak, Borers and all the Spencer gorge climbs were not in, despite the frigid weather. Didn't take a look at Tiffany's falls, but I would assume it would be in the same shape.
